A healthy today for a brighter tomorrow.

Christy Stearns named 2024 Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award recipient

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department is proud to announce that Christy Stearns, M.S., Clinton County Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award.

The Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award is given annually to an individual who has made remarkable contributions to improving public health in the Lake Cumberland District. The award is presented as part of National Public Health Week (April 1-7).

Stearns has served many years as the local Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent in Clinton County. She has served on the local Board of Health and has been very active in supporting public health in general, specifically in nutrition, physical activity, and diabetes prevention initiatives.

“Christy is a wonderful advocate for public health in the Lake Cumberland area,” said Amy Tomlinson, Executive Director of LCDHD. “Much of her work goes on behind the scenes and we feel she deserves recognition for her efforts. I’m excited to present the award to her.”

The award will be presented on Friday, April 5 during a reception at the Clinton County Health Department at 2 PM CST.

Nominations are accepted for the award each year on the LCDHD website during February. “The nominations this year once again included several very deserving community members,” said Tomlinson. “I am excited by the participation across the district and look forward to this award growing in the future.”

This award is named in honor of its first recipient, the late Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh, a long-time surgeon in Somerset and board member for the District Board of Health. In 2023, the award was presented to Dr. Richard Miles of Russell County.
