Nutrition affects your health from conception through senior years. A healthy diet, prenatal vitamins and appropriate weight gain during pregnancy reduces the risk of complications such as premature delivery and low birth weight babies. Learning to make good food choices and regular physical activity as a child or adolescent can lead to a lifelong commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy throughout adulthood can help prevent the risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
Basic Nutrition Services provide dietary guidelines on healthy eating habits and how to incorporate healthy eating into your busy lifestyle.
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is individualized dietary instruction that incorporates diet therapy counseling for nutrition-related problems. This includes an individualized dietary assessment done by a Register Dietitian (RD) or Certified Nutritionist. MNT may be offered to any person in need.
Nutrition counseling, educational materials, meal plans, screenings and referrals are part of our nutrition services program.
Nutrition services are available with an appointment at all ten county health departments. Contact your local health department for more information.
